FAST Aerospace has successfully completed a major testing campaign at the Space Propulsion Laboratory, part of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DAER) at Politecnico di Milano.

The experiment focused on the cold-flow testing of FAST’s patent-pending injector, a core component of the company’s proprietary ramjet propulsion system. During the test, water was used to simulate kerosene behavior, allowing the team to analyze flow patterns and injection performance under controlled conditions. Using a high-speed camera, the experiment captured detailed visualizations of the flow dynamics,  crucial for optimizing combustion efficiency and overall engine performance for future ramjet operation.

This achievement represents a significant milestone within the framework of ESA BIC Milan, the European Space Agency’s incubation program that supports innovative aerospace startups in collaboration with Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI), Regione Lombardia, and Politecnico di Milano.

“This testing campaign represents a key step in the validation of our injector design,” said Mattia Gabriele Bertolini, CTO and Co-founder of FAST Aerospace. “The data gathered from these cold-flow tests provide valuable insights that will guide the next stages of hot-fire experimentation and engine integration.”

The results of the campaign will support upcoming experimental phases, contributing to the development of HyperDart, FAST Aerospace’s reusable hypersonic air-launch system.

The company extends its sincere gratitude to ESA, ASI, Regione Lombardia, and Politecnico di Milano for their continued support.
